Israel prepares for nuclear terror

This is the name being given to the civil defense exercise which will be Israel's simulated response to a situation where a radioactive dispersal device attack takes place, more commonly known by the official term "dirty bomb".
In the recent weeks defense officials have gone out of their way to downplay this drills significance. It has been stated that this is just part of the ministries regular training regime. But anybody taking note of all this cannot ignore the timing that is involved, especially given that the window of opportunity to shut down Iran's nuclear program seems to be closing if you take note of all reports given.
The threat of nuclear terrorism has been on Israel’s agenda for a number of years and Israel is determined to stop Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon. This is not only because of the possibility of a ballistic long-range missile being fired directly into Tel Aviv, but more because of the possibility that a dirty bomb could be placed inside a shipping container aboard a cargo ship and be sent straight into a port such as Haifa and be exploded, this is a great concern.
It was only three years ago in 2008 that the commission of preventation of weapons of mass destruction, proliferation and terrorism, a vehicle established by the US Congress in 2007, issued a devastating warning that there was more than likely a great chance that a biological or nuclear terrorist attack could occur by the year 2013.
This was a terrifying conclusion and one that caused many nations to move on the front foot to have contingency plans in place.
It is believed that Al Qaeda would be the only possible terrorist organisation with the capability of developing a dirty bomb with no outside help. They have spoken openly of having a holy duty to use nuclear weapons when possible against the US. It is feared that if Iran had the capability to go nuclear, then Al Qaeda would no longer be alone and with Hezbollah in the picture they would be suspected of trying to possess such capabilities.
Of note the dark cloud exercise will be attended by military officers and defense officials from around the globe. Israel is seen as one of the leading nations internationally when it comes to preparing for such devastating situations, given the fact they face a wide variety of threats continuously.
It would be almost impossible for Israel to live comfortably with a nuclear armed Iran, there would be a constant threat in the air which could potentially grind Israel to a halt. All that it would take would be one dirty bomb exploding in Tel Aviv and while that the number of deadmay not be high, the psychological effect would be devastating.
